Ranma is an egoistic guy who
thinks that he is unbeatable.(As a matter of fact, he
really wins most battles.) Although he hates changing
into a girl, Ranma slowly learns the positive points of
becoming a girl and takes advantage of it. (Examples are
getting males to treat her free ice-cream, beating
Happosai etc.) Whenever Ranma sees Akane, only one word
comes to his mind and out of his mouth- not cute. Despite
how "not cute" Akane was, Ranma usually thinks
of her safety first before doing things. Though ironic,
Ranma is still quite a gentleman to girls.
Akane, in the first place, too
disliked Ranma and often scolds Ranma baka or fool
when he risks his life to safe her and help her solve
problems. Akane also often tend to use violence over
Ranma when he speaks ill of her in front of his friend.
But on the other hand, Akane still treats Ranma well. I
mean if you're supposed to fight for a husband over
dozens of fiancees, how Akane treats Ranma is really not
*bad*.
Ryouga was one of Ranma's
classmate and friend when they were younger. However,
after a silly incident, Ryouga challenged Ranma into a
battle and soon became an enemy of him as he didn't turn
up. (It was actually himself who was really late.) Not
only that, Ranma was the person who made him fall into a
cursed spring, cursing him to change into a pig when he
touches cool water. What really made him thought he
should defeat Ranma was Akane. Ryouga is exceptionally
poor in reading maps and tracking roads just like his
family members. (Probably failed his geography.) That was
also why he was very late for the challenge with
Ranma.
Shampoo is an amazon from China
who was defeated by Ranma(chan) in her village's annual
fight. Right after Ranma-chan won, Shampoo gave
Ranma-chan a kiss on Ranma's cheek. This kiss was the
Kiss of Death, which means that she'll kill Ranma-chan by
all means. So she chased, and chased, and chased, and
chased Ranma all the way from her village to Japan in
hope of killing Ranma-chan. In Japan, she met Ranma in
the male form, and she was defeated by Ranma-kun
accidentally. Thus, Ranma was given another kiss by
Shampoo. And this time, it was said that she'd marry
Ranma-kun by all means...
While practicing in Jusenkyo
with Obaba, Shampoo fell into a cursed spring and was
cursed. From then on, Shampoo changes into a cat when she
comes into contact with cool water. And for your
information, Ranma greatest fear is none other than...
CATS! Poor Ranma.
Ukyou was the third permanent
fiancee to appear in Ranma 1/2. Despite this, this girl
who likes to dress up as a guy was actually the first
person who became Ranma's fiancee. Ukyou's father gave
Genma his okiyami stall as Genma agreed to let Ukyou
marry Ranma. Neither did he expected that Genma took the
stall away and left Ukyou behind. Burning with hate,
Ukyou swear to kill Ranma for making her end up like
this. However, when she meets Ranma, she found out that
Ranma still has feelings for her. (I mean in exchange for
her okiyamis.) Thus, she decides to stop killing Ranma in
hope that he'll marry her one day...
Mousse is Shampoo's childhood
friend back in China. Since young, Mousse had longed that
Shampoo will marry him. Being pathetically shortsighted,
Mousse often proposes to different things and animals
instead of Shampoo. Knowing that Shampoo wants to marry
Ranma, Mousse tries to kill Ranma in hope of Shampoo will
love him once again. (Again...?) Mousse was also one of
those unfortunate characters that fell in a cursed
spring. He, when comes into contact with cool water,
turns into a duck. Even though he knows that he's not
worthy of marrying Shampoo, he still hopes that he can
win Shampoo's hand. On the whole, he is hopelessly in
love with Shampoo. And hopelessly shortsighted.
Genma is Ranma dearest beloved
father. Genma often lied to Ranma that he loved him and
he sacrificed a lot for him to make Ranma his scapegoat.
Not only this, Genma made Ranma get into heaps of
marriages just because of a moment of greed. To be true,
not having a father is better than having one like this.
I would refer this type of dad as "despicable".
Kasumi is probably the type of
daughter that anyone would like to have. She can cook
good food, wash your clothes clean, make your home spick
and span etc. Though so, Kasumi's character of takeing
things too lightly often make people wonder if she was a
goddess in her previous life. Things that can really make
her worry are forgetting to buy ingredients, not enough
money to buy food etc. She and Doctor Tofu can really
make a pair. And if you've seen Belldandy in Ah! My
Goddess, you'll find Belldandy exactly like Kasumi. As a
matter of fact, the Japanese voice actress for Belldandy
and Kasumi was actually the same person.
Nabiki is one of the most
money-faced characters in both the anime and manga world
I've ever seen. Nabiki is willing to do anything to get a
hefty some of money like selling photos of Akane in
swimsuits, saving Ranma's life only if he gives her money
and others so long it doesn't affect her. Despite of
being obsessed with money, Nabiki is actually helping the
family to get enough money to pay for necessities and
other things since Tendo Doujo hasn't had any fixed
income as there weren't any students willing to train in
the Doujo. What really made this problem worst was the
moving in of the Saotomes.
